Please I was trying to work on my checkout page and I was told to include certain code into function.php. The page turned white immediately I clicked on update. Though, clicked on back-page and later deleted this code but the page couldn’t respond again since then. Please help me sort out this problem. Thank you

  • You’ll have to download the functions.php file from your server (through FTP or your webhosts File Manager, if they have it available), fix the mistake you made by removing the code you’ve added, and then upload the file again.

Never change code in your functions.php file directly! Your situation is a good example why you shouldn’t do it…a small mistake can have big results. Instead, use a child theme, which is much safer.

Thanks for your prompt response but yet the problem is not yet resolved after downloading the functions.php and uploading it to my server. thanks

Did you edit the file in a text editor, undo the change you’ve made (so remove that “certain code” you mentioned in your first post), and then upload it to your webhost again?

Note that the slightest mistake in functions.php (a misplaced comma, semicolon, quote sign, etc.) could bring a site down so make sure that your change is completely removed.

If this is the only change you’ve made to functions.php, you could also get a fresh, new copy and upload that to your server. I don’t know where you got your theme from though, so I can’t tell you where you can get that fresh copy.

Alternatively, you could disable the theme altogether by renaming the theme’s directory name (under /wp-content/themes), which will make the site automatically revert to a default theme. It won’t look the same then of course, but at least it should make the site visible again.

    thanks senff

please I can’t figure out this problem yet. i need your assistance because i can’t upload a theme unto my site yet. I only have access to back-end and no theme is allowed to be inserted yet. PLEASE HELP

You can install a theme by downloading it to your local computer, and then unzip it. You should get a folder/directory named after the theme, with all the files in it.

Upload this entire folder to your server, into the /wp-content/themes/ directory.

When that’s done, log in to your site’s admin panel and go to Appearance – Themes. You should see the new theme in the list of themes, and from there you can activate it.

I need to say a very big thank you www.remarpro.com family, I mean everybody that stood by me to ensure that my website do come back to life. I APPRECIATE YOU ALL. I greet Senff, naturalminded and everybody that assisted in making me regret my single folly for a long time.
God will be with you all.
THANK GOD MY SITE IS BACK TO LIFE. .

however, i would like to tell everybody using wordpress/woocommerce/virtue in designing their website not to ever tamper with function.php in their website. The agony of doing so may be too much to bear.
    HOW TO RECTIFY THE FAULT
but if it happens, the first thing to do is to go to your server to change the name of the theme at wp-content/theme. change the name of the theme to anything that you can understand. e.g theme111. this will give you opportunity to access your admin page (your wp backend). Then, download new woocommerce plugins and look for wc-admin-function (PHP). DOWNLOAD the theme you change its name and then create another folder with the name: themes
re-upload the wc-admin-functions.php but first delete (wc) to remain admin-function.php and upload to your server. Then re-inserted/upload virtue theme into your website. this may solve the problem.
    Thank you

I am very very new to wordpress and I am entirely unsure about how to fix my problem.

Basically, I added a plug-in to try to get a “subscribe to our blog” and SINCE THEN (This was like 2 weeks ago) I’ve been unable to access my admin page to do ANYTHING!

I am entirely unfamiliar with how to navigate this issue and the jargon used above is a little confusing.

The site I am trying to run is the site for the law firm I work for and we have a ton of new posts I need to get up ASAP. Not to mention that I really need access to my admin site and so do my colleagues.

    Someone PLEASE PLEASE help me.

Same here i am also new to wordpress. the blog on my website leatherzapp.com get crashed and when i reintall it this give me same error. as a result i have removed my wordpress blog and link the hosted wordpress site
