    Hi,

I’ve just noticed that one of my categories is giving a 404, however the posts within it are fine. Why could this be?

I’ve done a few things today:-

    – Changed my permalink structure to display (%category%), however the other categories are working so I don’t think it’s this.

    – Re-enabled WP-SuperCache

    – Added a new RSS to feed my ‘Jobs’ category (via WPeMatico)

My site can be found at www(dot)highfrequencytraders(dot)com, and my ‘Jobs’ category can be acccessed from there. At the bottom left of the homepage, you’ll see the recent posts in that category which work fine….

Has anybody got any ideas about what’s wrong??

    Many Thanks,
    Jon

    Hi Roy,

    Thanks for finding that.

How do I rectify that though?

The category title is ‘Jobs’ and the slug is ‘jobs’

I’ve tried changing the slug to ‘Jobs’ but it won’t let me and I’ve also tried changing the title to ‘jobs’ and it doesn’t make a difference….

I’m lost here. Also what caused this? It was fine a few hours ago…

My guess was that you somehow hardcoded the link to the category, like in the header.php, used the links/blogroll function or something, but it seems that is not the case. Hmmmmm, not a clue really. What did you change/do before it happened?

    Hi Roy,

    Well the main things which I changed today is;

    – Changed my permalink structure to display (%category%), however the other categories are working so I don’t think it’s this.

    – Re-enabled WP-SuperCache

I’d like to work out how to fix this. It’s not urgent now, as I’ve set up a 301 from /jobs to /Jobs so everything is working fine.

I’ve got a developer doing some work for me next week so I’ll ask him to take a look at it then.

Thanks for all your help anyway, if you hadn’t have spotted the capitals then I wouldn’t have been able to temporarily fix it!

P.S. Could you please edit and remove the hyperlink which you inserted above? Otherwise I’ll need to get a mod to delete the thread as I don’t want any links associated to problem posts!

    Thanks.

No sorry, I cannot edit that post anymore. I’ve added a “modlook” tag to this thread, a mod might be able to edit my post.

In any case, your problem is still unexplained. One thing I wonder, do the posts in that category perhaps have two categories? I can imagine that it is problematical when a post gets category a and category b and you want to list the categoryname in the permalink.

Removed link, though generally this is something we do not like to do (if Roy had linked to his own site, or if HFT had linked to his, the link would remain, IMO).

Check your database and see if the slug is somehow named wrong and just being parsed by the WP front end.

Also you could put in an .htaccess rule to redirect jobs to Jobs.

    Thanks for the help guys,

I’ll have a look at the db and if I don’t have any luck, I’ll ask my developer to have a look at it.

In the meantime, the 301 is working fine.

    Thanks.

It could also be another plugin causing conflicts, BTW, though this one’s pretty weird. By nature, WP defaults to the lowercase slugs.

Right, I think I’ve realised what could have caused this.

The same day which I had this problem, I created a Syndicated RSS campaign called ‘Jobs’ to auto import job listings via ‘FeedWordpress’.

Could this have caused the conflict? And if so, what should I look for/rectify in the database?

    Thanks
