• I have upgraded to the multi-site network. Everything worked fine and I even set up the second site. However, when I go to the site it takes me to the main domain 404 page.

I was told to import the content from the old site to the new site, I did that..but it only ended up going to the main blog itself instead of the new site created. I have no idea where I’ve messed up as I followed the instructions step by step.

https://poetry.saanamsmind.com should now be https://saanamsmind.com/poetry but I don’t see anything there.

Plus, none of my themes are working. All I see is color, no images whatsoever. Only one of the themes is working but rest of them are not.

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

How should I go about doing it now? Should I delete everything and re-install or should I just delete that plugin itself and install the one that you just gave the link to?

I did export the posts from https://poetry.saanamsmind.com , the file is on my computer. However, when I went to import it to the current directory https://saanamsmind.com/poetry it only imported some of the posts and I got the error I posted above.

@andrea the previous tutorial actually made me install this plugin that you gave as well.

Will just wait till either you tell me how to go about this now instead of attempting to fix it myself, which I’m sure will end up in a disaster. :/

Should I uninstall the whole thing and re-install it without following any of the tutorial that I followed above? Or is there a way to fix this issue without uninstalling?

Plus the themes are still not showing up. But that happened when I upgraded to 3.0 not yet moving to Multi-site. Any ideas?

Should I delete everything and re-install

Yes. Take backups and get exports of everything you need and reinstall.

If you want the blogs to ultimately be subdomains, pick that option.

Subdomain in the network do not work liek subdomain in cpanel.

Should I reinstall WP as a whole or just delete the stuff I did with MultiSite?

Will wait for your reply Andrea, before I do anything. Don’t want to lose anything even though I did backup everything and got exports of everything too.

You know, bumping threads is frowned upon here (and against the guideines).

I would say, yes, rip it all out and start over.

Remember: If you have manually created subdomains, that MIGHT conflict with any dynamic ones you create later on.

Oops..sorry..it’s just that it gets lost and then none replies. ?? I’ll keep that in mind.

I’ll change the manually created subdomains name so it doesn’t conflict with it.

thanks for the reply, will get working on it now.

No one replies because we’re busy, we have lives, we have jobs, we don’t know the answer, or we’re trying to think of a better way to say something we thought was obvious.

And the regulars here DO keep tabs on posts we’ve replied to, either in our profiles, our favorites, or even RSS.

    Don’t bump, and good luck.

When wanting to choose subdomains, it’s a must to set up the Setting Wildcard Subdomains, right?

I did setup a *.saanamsmind.com but I’m not sure where to go to do this step:

    # Apache must be configured to accept wildcards.

    1. Open up the httpd.conf file or the include file containing the VHOST entry for your web account.
    2. Add this line:

    ServerAlias *.example.com

2.# In the DNS records on your server, add a wildcard subdomain that points to the main installation. It should look like:

    A *.example.com

Ask your webhost if they support it. All I had to do was put that into cpanel for subdomains, and it worked perfectly.

    (@uzma)

Yes they do support wildcard. I had called them yesterday to confirm.

So all I need to do was the *.saanamsmind.com I just want to make sure so I don’t skip any step and mess it up again.

The reason I was doing this was because I wanted it to be a subdomain for poetry site instead of the subdirectory. Am I on the right track?
