This feature has caused a lot of problems for me. My /uploads directly went from 90meg to 6gig and there are undesirable side effects because of this. I simply want to turn off this feature.

Please explain how to fully disable Responsive Images.

  • The best way is this plugin: Disable Responsive Images

I am using that plugin but it doesn’t prevent WordPress from generating all the extra images. Apparently it only prevents WP from adding the extra links defined for the responsive images in each post.

Thanks, my friend! I will try it right now!

    Good luck! ??

I tried that code but it apparently didn’t stop the images from being created. Just to make sure I’m looking at the issue correctly, this is typical set of image files. The first one is the original and I’m assuming the following 4 are the responsive images. This set was made after I installed the code suggested by that article:

    LasVegas_JF3A6717-570.jpg
    LasVegas_JF3A6717-570-130×180.jpg
    LasVegas_JF3A6717-570-144×144.jpg
    LasVegas_JF3A6717-570-166×240.jpg
    LasVegas_JF3A6717-570-300×294.jpg

These are all being created in my /uploads directory.

I was looking at the source code for the page that contains the original image and at least two of the above files aren’t referenced anywhere. But a couple of might be legitimate thumbnails for a couple of other plugins. I need to see if they are building thumbnails in the /uploads directly or whether they are building them in their own cache system.
