I have a message in my admin saying:
“PayPal Checkout with new Smart Payment Buttons? gives your customers the power to pay the way they want without leaving your site.

The existing buttons will be removed in the next release. Please upgrade to Smart Payment Buttons on the PayPal Checkout settings page.”

I disabled the smart buttons because they confuse customers. I had customers complain that PayPal was the only payment method even though it’s not. What happens is that the “smart button” makes the payment button PayPal branded (when the PayPal payment method is selected), giving the impression that it’s the only option. I was losing sales thanks to this behaviour, so I disabled it…

So, please do NOT force us to use this feature. Or, fix the behaviour first so that the payment button does NOT become PayPal branded.

    Hi there!

Thanks so much for that feedback. I’d urge you to post it at ideas.woocommerce.com — that’s where our developers go to see what improvements or changes users are looking for. By “upvoting” suggestions, it helps the devs prioritize features or fixes.

I’m going to mark this topic “closed,” but if you have any other questions about PayPal Checkout, please feel free to open a new thread!

    I second this request.
Please do NOT force us to use Smart buttons/paypal express checkout.

In Europe any shop is forced by law to have the customers fill in some Checkboxes (GDPR, Terms and Conditions, Right of revocation etc.) which cannot happen if the smart buttons or paypal express are used.

That means, if you force us to use smart buttons, we in Europe cannot use your plugin anymore and comply to the law. Please consider.

Same to me here in Germany. We can not use the Paypal plus plugin. that is for germany because this plugin is buggy an is not working with woo subscription. So please do NOT force us to use Smart buttons/paypal express checkout.
