• It’s great that you have a way in the settings of a WP Form to specify the “from” address. However, the default value of this field, the admin address of the site, is a poor choice.

    Since the admin address is rarely in the originating domain, the notifications are frequently flagged as spam — as people have reported here previously. They are _appropriately_ detected as spoofed because they do not in fact come from the domain they claim to come from.

    Please change the default to have your notifications come from [email protected], like other notifications originating from WordPress (password reset, new user welcome, etc). This is likely to encounter significantly fewer difficulties — and if people do still have a problem, you can tell them to talk with their hosting provider about email authentication, since other emails from the site would have the same problem.

    If you do not have an SMTP installed and set up on your site, please know that you should be able to manually type in the email address in the From Email setting. Here’s a quick screencast for reference.

    In case you have an SMTP plugin active on your site, chances are, that setting will be uneditable but you should be able to set that to the email address of your choice.

    Obviously I can change it. I am asking for you to change the DEFAULT value to something that preserves the website owner’s privacy and is more likely to actually work. This is a bad choice for the DEFAULT VALUE.
