I’m interested to know what they are doing to achieve it. How does it get on my site and why does it look different. Is it using a legit method to do it or is it just bad?

They’re looking for backlinks to their site. These kinds of spammers use software to post very generic comments anywhere they can. My guess is that this spammer is scraping site links and some content from these forums and then using that content to post bogus comments in the hopes that you’ll think they’re genuine.

It’s not legit and I think most descriptions of comments spammers would include a fair spattering of Anglo-Saxon words (the four letter kind) but it’s difficult to stop them without:

a) Using something like Akismet to stop you being overwhelmed
b) Reading all comments that Akismet doesn’t catch and only publishing those that you are happy with.

After all, you are not obliged to publish every comment you receive. A quality site publishes only quality comments, in my opinion, and you’re the final arbiter of quality on your site.
