I love the addition of the new unique ID for GTIN and so on, but I’ve noticed that the field doesn’t appear in the Quick edit options at the products admin page, as with the SKU and others.

Please, add this field to this quick edit options too, it would be handy for every store manager who use these IDs.

Note: Is there any place for documentation to show this new field inside the meta section of themes. Most themes I’ve checked don’t show this new field in the single product page ??

    Thanks ??

    Hi @fernandot,

Thank you for your feedback! We’re happy to learn you love this new addition! We appreciate your suggestions and are always looking for ways to improve our products and services. Input from users like you is invaluable. The idea of having this new field available for quick editing is great!

We have a website where you can submit feature requests and upvote the ones other people submitted and you like. You can check that out?here.

Note: Is there any place for documentation to show this new field inside the meta section of themes. Most themes I’ve checked don’t show this new field in the single product page ??

Please keep in mind that it is up to theme developers to make sure the themes are compatible with this change; since this is something new, you may have to wait for your theme developers to catch up. I’m sure it’ll be soon before this is adopted!

If you want to try this on your own, you should be able to find this field under the global_unique_id meta key and you could modify your theme (through a child theme!) to fetch and display this data.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help or if you have further questions.

    Have a wonderful day!

So, the new GTIN field cannot be searched in the store (the search – internal and external – doesn’t know about it), doesn’t generate schema.org microdata for structured data compliance and the default Woo theme doesn’t show the field.

Is there a schedule to make this field useful in any way?

    Hello Fernando Tellado,

    Thank you for your reply.

I can confirm that the GTIN field is currently not searchable within the store, and this could be because GTIN values are primarily intended to be used via API integrations, such as with Google Merchant Center.

Additionally, you mentioned that the default WooCommerce theme doesn’t display the field, but I’ve tested it with the Storefront theme, and it does show up correctly. I’ve addressed the display issue in your other thread, so feel free to check that for more details.

Let me know if you need further assistance!

    Hi @fernandot!

I’m not familiar with this. Can you share more details, please? I’m reviewing the https://schema.org/ website and checking on Google, but this seems like a third-party thing, not something built-in with WordPress, correct? Any details you can share to understand better your requirements would be appreciated! ??

Regarding searching this field, I can confirm it’s not working for search purposes. This is expected for certain values within products, I’m not sure if this would be considered a search term in the future, but it’s a nice feature request nevertheless.

Again, you can leave this feature request in our portal here: https://woocommerce.com/feature-requests/woocommerce/ (same for adding this option to quick edit!).

    Thanks!

    Hi @omarfpg

Usually, WooCommerce generate some of the schema.org microdata in order to be compatible with Google Structured Data. Microdata as price, ratings, product image, etc.

Regarding the gtin/ean/etc microdata, people tend to use third party plugins to generate the correct structured data for this type of microdata, and it would be useful that WooCommerce generate it too.

Hi @fernandot! (Did you know the F in OmarFPG stands for Fernando? Somos tocayos!)

Usually, WooCommerce generate some of the schema.org microdata in order to be compatible with Google Structured Data. Microdata as price, ratings, product image, etc.

Thank you for sharing those additional details. I believe this is already in the works; you can learn more about it here: https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/pull/50087. Is this what you refer?

    I hope this helps! ??
