Player Position

  • Really enjoying this plugin so far.

    I noticed that the Position option for Players only allows for a single selection. Any way to make it so that multiple positions can be selected?

    In many sports, players will have a primary position that they play, but they also play other positions when needed or as a backup. For example, in basketball, a player may be both a PG and SG, or a PF and a C. In volleyball, players may be a MB and an OPP, or on OH and an S.

    This situation was considered during development but I decided it was better to have one position for a player. I totally understand where you are coming from and do realise players can play in multiple position, I’m a forward myself but have been playing left-wing for the last 4 years! But you said it yourself, players have a primary position.

    As you can imagine, I have seen hundreds of club websites while researching and developing this plugin and they nearly all, without exception, display just one position for players, whichever sport. Not that I’m saying everyone else has done that, so I will, but having one position allows for much more flexibility when building unique themes for the plugin. For example, the theme I’m working on now wouldn’t work as it does now if I had to cater for a list of positions rather than just one primary position. I feel that the flexibility it allows outweighs the number of people that would use multiple positions.

    Sorry thats probably not the answer you were hoping for but I hope I’ve explained my rationale clearly.

    Thanks for the well thought out answer. Even though it has only been out since the beginning of the year, it is already far better than any other plugin for what I am trying to do. Great job.
