• When viewing the listing of podcasts, the player for each podcast doesn’t seem to load for all the podcasts – it shows the time for a handful of them and you can play them off the site, but most show a time of 0:00 and won’t play. If you sit on the page for some time between refreshes, slowly more individual podcasts show their time and are available to play.

We’ve tried excluding the podcast pages from caching, disabling caching completely, and a number of other things and can’t seem to figure it out. It does seem like slowly overtime the site is loading data in the background, which is odd. Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated!

  • I did verify what your site was doing. Originally I couldn’t listen to any sermons. I clicked on a sermon which brings up the single sermon page. I could listen to it there. I went back to your podcast page and I could listen to it there now. I could also listen to a few. While I was talking to my wife (her lunch break) I noticed all of the audio was now ready to listen after a few minutes.

I switched browsers and I could listen to each one right away.

We don’t display the audio in the archive. I do have a test site, so I switched to display audio on archive, switched my theme to DIVI, and switched to the ‘Browser HTML5’ player (we use Plyr). Had no issues at all, but we don’t use caching on our test site.

    Not sure if this helps.

Thanks for looking at the site Mike – we have been using browser HTML5 as the player. I’ve tried the Plyr player as well and the issues does seem to persist.

I am wondering if it could be a caching issue – we have the sermon archives and pages set up to be excluded from caching via the Wp-Rocket plugin, however the site host (Flywheel) does use server side varnish caching. According to Flywheel the Wp-Rocket plugin is setup to interface with their caching, but having upgraded from a legacy to cloud hosting account it’s also added a Fastly CDN component.
