A work around I have used it to use tabs or accordions, with shortcodes to display the filtered information that most people would want to see.

Hmm, actually if you change the line 95 of \assets\js\sportspress.js:
from: "searching": false,
to: "searching": true,

A search field will appear that will make what you want ??
