• Hi,

This plugin works great and flawless in most browsers.
    Unfortunately not in Safari.

The background-video in safari freezes most of the times (not always), showing distorted colors of the video.
    Here how it looks:
    distorted result in safari
Safari is able to load the video, so the fallback image doesn’t appear.
I have a WebM, Mp4 and a Ogg version of the video integrated.

Anyone having the same problem and/or knows how to solve it?

    Thanks in advance!

Hi, what did you use to encode the webm, mp4, ogg? I can’t really see how the plugin could cause something like this, it must be to do with the video encoding.

You could try one at a time removing 2 out of 3 of the source types (can’t remember off the top of my head which one Safari will use first) and see if you can narrow it down to which one of your 3 sources is creating the issue. Once you’ve figured that out, try to re-encode that version, maybe through a different service.

    Hi GusRuss89,

At first I used vimeo (uploading and exporting) to compress the original mp4, I didn’t use the other formats (ogg & webm). So I only uploaded the compressed mp4 to the wordpress website. The playback problem already occurred. I thought maybe also uploading an ogg and webm-video would solve the problem. Unfortunately that was not the case.
I also ruled out the vimeo-compression because I also tried the website https://converterpoint.com/ to compress the original video and to convert an ogg- & webm-version of the video. Using these compressed/converted video’s had the same result in safari.
What I also tried is to only use the original mp4, way too big in file size (60mb), but just to test if it had the same bug. The distorted colors don’t appear but the playback stops after 1 or 2 seconds and sometimes half of the videoscreen has one color.
The playback of the uncompressed video in other browsers works without problems.
I also ruled out the options of the plugin like the color overlay and the pause button, but neither that is causing the playback problems in safari.
Also tried another video, similar playback problems in safari.

Do you have other suggestions how to solve this safari-problem?
    thanks in advance!

Hmm I’m pretty stumped as well. Have you tried removing the mp4 source altogether just for testing? Do you have a url where I can take a look at the problem?

    Thanks,
    Angus

    Hey Angus,

Thanks for wanting to help, but I think I found the solution.
The plugin “facebook thumb fixer” was messing up the “page builder” plugin of siteorigin. The build-up of my pages, in my particular case: 3 rows was reduced to 1 row. So all the content (and code) of the 3 rows was placed in 1 row.

Messing up the build-up of my pages made by the page builder plugin also had an impact on how your plugin works. Strangely enough only in Safari.
I’m not 100% sure this is the cause of my problem, but since I’ve deactivated the “facebook thumb fixer” plugin I have no longer the playback problem in safari.

Great plugin Angus & thanks for wanting to help!

    cheers!
