Placeholder text inside of Choose a Username field

There is a change planned for the 3.2 release that will add the username field to be managed in the fields tab. While that is “planned,” it may end up being pushed to a later milestone.

In the meantime, the documentation for the wpmem_form_field() function in the API has a practical example of using the wpmem_register_form_field filter to create the username field with a placeholder.

Yes – functions.php would generally be where you put it. Some people construct personal plugin files to store their custom code snippets as well.
