• Hi everyone,

I like Onetone’s video background feature as part of its parallax scrolling technique, but I can’t figure out how to ensure that the video is replaced by a thumbnail image for mobile users. (Video Streaming Embeds are disabled by default for mobile visitors, and in the past I’ve used Dreamweaver to set up custom links to thumbnails instead).

I did try to locate the source code that manages the background video but couldn’t find it anywhere – can anyone help?

(BTW I’m a brand new WordPress user just getting to grips with the way it works, so if you could expand upon your answer if possible to give me a little extra guidance until I find my feet, I’d appreciate it).

    Best,

    Marc

Hi gi4nt – I also posted this question on the MageeWP support site, and they got back to me with a suggestion that worked.

    They said:
“You could set background image for the banner section. It would display instead of youtube video background on mobile devices.”

We tried this and it worked, with one minro issue, that the image size is actually quite important, and you need to ensure that it is less than the video resolution. For example, our video was 1920×1080, so we found we had to adjust the background image to 1920×1018, so that its bottom edge doesn’t stick out beyond the section where the video would normally sit.

Once we did that, it worked as expected.

I also found that there are a lot of people who criticise MageeWP for their lack of support. I have to say, that this was not my experience – although their answer was brief, it was very prompt and I think that all credit to them for creating a great theme with so much flexibility. If you have a question to ask them, you may well be better off posting in their support forum directly on https://mageewp.com/forums.
