place widget in content area

I’m trying to figure out if I can place a widget in the content area of a static page.
I have a widget displaying Recent Post in the side bar. I would really like to be able to do that in the content area of the page.

I’ve been searching everywhere I can think of for a plugin that can do that. Actually that is a plugin, “Recent Posts Widget Extended”.

Is there a way to put a widget in the content area of a page? Failing that, does anyone know of a a plugin or a way to do what this plugin is doing, only do it in the content area of the page. In other words I need a page that shows a list of all the post from a category like this widget is doing in the sidebar. Ideally the list would be titles / links with thumbnails and short excerpts. Basically a list, much like the widget is doing.
