    Hi

I have been having issues pinning from the Pinterest integration on my site.
I reached out to Pinterest and they said something is blocking it on my site.
After disabling any network plugins it came out to be BadBots that was blocking it.
They say that their user agent is:

    Our user agent is:

    Pinterest/0.2 (+https://www.pinterest.com/bot.html)
    Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Pinterestbot/1.0; +https://www.pinterest.com/bot.html)
    Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 6.0.1; Nexus 5X Build/MMB29P) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/41.0.2272.96 Mobile Safari/537.36 (compatible; Pinterestbot/1.0; +https://www.pinterest.com/bot.html)

Our crawler’s IP is dynamic, but the range is 54.236.1.XXX. Please refer to the above user agent information to properly allow our crawler traffic on your site.

How can I add this to the whitelists to stop it being blocked?

    Thanks

    Rob

    Hi Rob,

You can always allow Pinterest by doing one or the other (or both):

    • Add “54.236.1.” (without the quotes) to the setting, “Whitelisted IPs”
    • Add “pinterest” (without the quotes) to the plugin setting, “Whitelisted Bots”

    Save changes and done.

Check the plugin Help tab for instructions and further details.

    Hi again

Pinterest is in the Bot Whitelist.
    I will try the IP

If “pinterest” (without the quotes) is included in the Bot/UA Whitelist, it is impossible for the plugin to block any request that includes “pinterest” (case-insensitive) in the user agent. But yeah, to be extra safe add their IP address block to the Whitelist IP setting should be good to go.

    Hi again

I added “54.236.1.” in the IP list without quotes and Pinterest is in the whitelist and still I have no ability to pin things from my site to Pinterest. Only when the plugin is disabled.

If Pinterest was blocked before you added Pinterest to either whitelist, you will need to remove the entry from the Bad Bot Log. Otherwise they remain blocked. I.e., the whitelists are not retro-active.

    Hi
    It wasn’t.

    But this is very weird.
I disabled the plugin again and the issue remained, even though last night when I did it it worked.
So I did the standard disable all plugins and the issue still remains with all the plugins disabled.

Yeah it’s probably not Blackhole at issue here.
