Ever since moving to self-hosted wordpress (jetpack enabled), I have stopped receiving pingbacks. My settings have both of these settings enabled:

Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article
Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks)

The only link notifications I receive are from free wordpress blogs. If it is a blog hosted with Automattic or self-hosted, pingbacks do not work.

I assumed this was an issue with the Jetpack plugin, considering pingbacks half work. I’ve since had a rather frustrating exchange on Twitter with Jetpack support (since they don’t have support for free accounts); https://twitter.com/jetpack/status/1192225677971468288?s=20

I’ve essentially been told this is just the way it is, but I kind fo don’t want to accept this as fact? For all intents and purposes it SHOULD be working, and based on their twitter replies it should be working.

Thanks in advance for your time!

Thank you for taking the time to respond, but that article does not answer my question.

When posts of mine are linked to on another blog, I no longer get the notification (and pingback comment) of the mention unless the blog is hosted on free wordpress. I know these blogs have their “Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article” enabled because prior to moving self-hosted (I moved from a paid wordpress plan) I used to receive them.

Additionally, it doesn’t appear that the pingbacks I create for other blogs work either, despite having my jetpack settings set appropriately. I’d assume this is a Jetpack issue but I was repeatedly shut down in that regard.

My blogging niche is heavily interactive and collaborative, and we rely heavily on pingbacks. I’d really like to find a solution rather than just accept it, because there is no logical reason for this not to function.
