Yesterday I found a comment that said it was from a pingback and appeared to just show an attachment to a link. Can anyone tell me more about this. How is it generated? Should I consider it spam?

I get a lot of these to. The pingback is ment to let you know that someone have found your blog post interesting enough to link to it.

The pingback system also motivates other bloggers to write about you, since they get a link back from the blogpost they are linking to.

Spamers have exploited this method, and will send you a pingback without actually linking to your site. The idea is that some webmasters won’t check the link and just approve the pingback link.

If the pingback is not legit or not from a trustworthy source, you should report it as spam, or just delete it as I do.
