• I rec’d notice that I had a new pingback. I checked out the link and discovered my whole blog post, minus photos, on their website/blog with only a linked post title at the bottom. To me, it looks like they’re stealing my post & making it look like their own. Here’s the link:

This is the first pingback I’ve had, so I’m not sure what I should do. If I trash it in my wp admin account, that wouldn’t remove it from the other blog, I assume. What would a normal procedure be?
    Thank-you,
    Jane

  • Here is an interesting article courtesy of wordpress.com. It might help you organize your thoughts and course of action.

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/content-theft-what-to-do/

You may be able to find the owners contact info on the site itself, or by running the domain name through an online whois service – here is a popular one – that might give you the host info as well in the server stats section, or you can follow the links in the article for more information.

Splogs, blogs that re-post content from the feeds of other blogs for the purpose of generating ad revenue, are unfortunately quite common. The best thing you can do is install a plugin like Better Feed and use that to attach a copyright notice and a link back to your blog beneath every post in your feed. Even if your content is stolen, at least people will know who it belongs to. If the splog is using Google Adsense, you can click the “Ads by Google” link at the bottom of the ad and report that the blog in question has stolen your content.

As for the pingbacks, feel free to mark them as “Spam”. If you and other people do that often enough, Akismet will blacklist their URL. It won’t stop them from stealing your content, but it will grant you some revenge.

For more info on policing the usage of your own content, read this article.
