• Ok, I’ve searched around and am still not clear on what Pingback and Trackback is. What the heck are they and what do I do with them?

    It seems that most people just disable theme these days. ??

    In short, it’s an easy way for a blog that links to you to notify you of that link. Imagine an automated comment saying, “Hey, I just linked to this post, check out my post!”

    Of course, it’s also a really easy way to spam a blog.

    Cool. I’ll just disable them as well. I went to:

    Settings -> Discussion

    And unchecked “Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks)”

    Is that the only place? And what about:

    “Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article”

    Thanks, James!

    And unchecked “Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks)”

    That will only set the default to disable it on future posts/pages. If you have any existing posts/pages, you’ll need to edit the post/page, scroll below the editor to the Discussion box, and uncheck “Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page.”

    If you don’t see the Discussion box below the post editor, click the Screen Options tab near the top-right and check “Discussion.”

    And what about: “Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article”

    That setting controls whether or not you send Pingbacks. You can leave it enabled or disable it, it depends on how you feel about it. ??
