Check that those posts have comments turned on. If yes then try deactivating all of your plugins and switch to the Twenty Fifteen theme just to see if the comments come back. That’s a temporary step and you can reactivate the theme and plugins after that.

If it is your theme then you really are better off asking the theme author where you purchased it.

Thank you, Jan. Exactly how do I check to see which posts have comments turned on? Is there a function for each individual post? Because globally, I’ve always allowed posts to receive comments by going to the Discussion tab and checking “Allow people to post comments on new articles”. Beneath this option, I see (These settings may be overidden for individual posts). I’d like to know how this is possible before I disable all plugins. Thanks again for taking a look

Just found it! Thanks for the help – it appears that with a WordPress update, the option to alter individual posts is now in the Screen Options at the top; but you have to be on that specific page for the option to show up. Updates seem to be able to override previous global setting sometimes. For anyone with similar issues, you may also need to add a comment actually enable this functionality for page visitors (or maybe just delete your cache).
