• DO NOT use this rubbish on an ecommerce site.
They blocked ALL post to visitors.
To us, logged in as admin, all post were fine. But to guests they all got this message:

“This content is restricted to site members. If you are an existing user, please log in. New users may register below.”

[ Personal attack moderated ] We happen to found this after 1 week and no sales to our shop.

And no, do not blame me. I download this plugin, while I am obviously logged in as Admin.
I activate this plugin while still logged in as Admin, and everything works fine according to what I see, while being logged in as Admin.

How am I suppose to know that for non logged in users everything is blocked? Who thought that this default option is a good idea?

  • Although my site is not an ecommerce site, it worked just fine for me. This plug in has a default block for posts and pages that can be easily unblocked per page or post under settings, or per page or post, depending on what you want it to do. Which I find convenient on initial install. This is the first time I used this plug in and it’s good so far and versatile. Sometimes, I find there are theme/plug in issues. I’ve been able to fix easily with a little help.

They have lots of documentation too, more than usual for a plug in. Hope Chad replies to you to help you resolve whatever the issue is via ecommerce. They’ve been good to me. Good Luck.

Sorry you feel the need to post a negative review for the plugin over this. I think this could have been avoided if you had looked over the plugin’s description or documentation.

How am I suppose to know that for non logged in users everything is blocked?

Answer: By reading and following instructions.

Not everything is blocked by default. The plugin initially installs to block posts, not pages, and both of these settings can be easily changed.

Who thought that this default option is a good idea?

This plugin has been available for more than ten years with over one million downloads and 60,000 active installs. You are the first person who has ever complained to me about the plugin’s default content blocking settings at install.

The initial install is set to block posts but not pages. This is covered in several places. To begin with, it is outlined on the plugin page in the description of the plugin’s features. The following is a quote from that description:

It restricts all posts by default but allows the site owner to “unblock” content as desired. WP-Members also offers the ability to change these default plugin settings. For those that simply want to utilize the member management features and possibly restrict some content, the default setting can easily be toggled to block or unblock pages and/or posts by default. No matter what the default setting, individual posts or pages can be set to be blocked or unblocked at the article level, overriding the default setting.

These settings are also covered in depth as part of the plugin’s documentation as well as being covered in the Quick Start Guide, both of which are linked to from the plugin page as well as from within the plugin’s admin panel (every tab in the admin panel links to the plugin’s documentation).

I work very hard to produce a quality product and to continue to make it freely available. Reviews are an important part of that. It’s unfortunate that you feel the need to give a plugin one star because you didn’t read instructions (which evidently is a pattern with you).

Useful reviews provide information about whether a plugin works and does what it says it does. Since this plugin is intended to restrict content to logged in users, based on your description of its performance, it does exactly that.

    Thanks Sharon!

I had no such issues with this plug in. It was obvious which pages were blocked and what the default was. It solved my problem perfectly – restricting access to some pages to only our club members.
An added bonus is the ability to add custom fields. Combing this with amr_users, I was able to list all of the member details for our logged in members.

The author is very professional and quick to respond.

How can i redirected to a specific page after login.

Just one more comment for Kiets: A regression test would have detected the “problem” you had.
For an important, commercial site, you should have a test plan that includes logging in and exercising the code as different users with different roles.

    > How am I suppose to know that for non logged in users everything is blocked?

    it’s called testing…
