Sorry you feel the need to post a negative review for the plugin over this. I think this could have been avoided if you had looked over the plugin’s description or documentation.
How am I suppose to know that for non logged in users everything is blocked?
Answer: By reading and following instructions.
Not everything is blocked by default. The plugin initially installs to block posts, not pages, and both of these settings can be easily changed.
Who thought that this default option is a good idea?
This plugin has been available for more than ten years with over one million downloads and 60,000 active installs. You are the first person who has ever complained to me about the plugin’s default content blocking settings at install.
The initial install is set to block posts but not pages. This is covered in several places. To begin with, it is outlined on the plugin page in the description of the plugin’s features. The following is a quote from that description:
It restricts all posts by default but allows the site owner to “unblock” content as desired. WP-Members also offers the ability to change these default plugin settings. For those that simply want to utilize the member management features and possibly restrict some content, the default setting can easily be toggled to block or unblock pages and/or posts by default. No matter what the default setting, individual posts or pages can be set to be blocked or unblocked at the article level, overriding the default setting.
These settings are also covered in depth as part of the plugin’s documentation as well as being covered in the Quick Start Guide, both of which are linked to from the plugin page as well as from within the plugin’s admin panel (every tab in the admin panel links to the plugin’s documentation).
I work very hard to produce a quality product and to continue to make it freely available. Reviews are an important part of that. It’s unfortunate that you feel the need to give a plugin one star because you didn’t read instructions (which evidently is a pattern with you).
Useful reviews provide information about whether a plugin works and does what it says it does. Since this plugin is intended to restrict content to logged in users, based on your description of its performance, it does exactly that.
