• I am trying to add pictures to a post, and I am getting this message:

    Post-processing of the image failed likely because the server is busy or does not have enough resources. Uploading a smaller image may help. Suggested maximum size is 2500 pixels.

    This happened before about 6 months ago. I think the issue was that I didn’t have enough space or something. I tend to edit the size of the pictures after they have been uploaded. I’m putting 37 pictures in this post. Many of my other posts are similar with around 4000 words. Most of the pictures are uploading, but there are 4 that aren’t. I don’t understand why not since they are the same size as the once that work.

    Any help on this?

  • What is the size in MB? You should not upload pics bigger than 300kb, max. Too big and you get this problem, and it slows your site right down.

    It seems likely that you’re running out of temp file space on your server. If you upload images one at a time, does it work?

    How large are these 4 images that are problems?

    Check with your host regarding file space on the server — not just the quota they assign to your account, but actual free space available to you.

    I just checked more, your site is very slow, and I’m on high speed broadband, you seem to have photos over 5MB! You might want to do something about that.

    @sean-h What should I do to fix it?

    @mynewdanishlife

    You’ll have to re-upload all your photos, at least the ones that are over the suggested limit. I know I said 300kb earlier, but it’s better to make them even lower, around 100-150kb and 1080×820 pixels, that’s what we use.

    As far as I know, there is no way to properly resize images once in WordPress. Speed is one thing, but if you keep uploading huge images you’ll fill your hosting account up quickly and you may keep getting upload errors because most shared hosting providers seriously limit individual uploads, as you’ve already encountered.

    What about using a plugin like Imagify? Can’t that help?

    P.S. How do you resize pictures? Is there a free program that can do this?

    There are some plugins that can help, a bit, but at the end of the day, site owners ultimately need to optimise images before they’re uploaded. In my case, I have a Mac, so I use ‘Preview’ to resize the images. If you’re a pro (which I’m not) and you can afford things like Photoshop, that can work too. I’m hosting with Siteground and they have image optimisation with their own plugin, but that only works to a point, only a certain percentage of the image uploaded is optimised. In other words, if you upload a 5mb image, it will not be magically reduced to the recommended 100kb.

    At the end of the day, I’m actually just a hobby blogger, so I unfortunately can’t offer much more help.
