• Picture never appears as more than Box with Red X in it. I upload the Jpeg from my desktop to the library but it never appears. What could be the cause of that? Thx.

Posted several times because there is no help. Im on my admin page, so posting a link is not of relevance at this time.

Help is volunteer, unpaid and not guaranteed to be instantaneous. Patience is appreciated.

Your still not being very informative.
    Are you using mod_rewrite ?
What is the img src ?
Have you tried just pasting the img URL into a browser window?

Does the image even get a URL?
does the image exist on the server?

Is this part of the base wordpress or by library do you mean a seperate module?

What are the file permissions on your server? Can the web server write to the directory set as upload path?

Maybe you could try setting everything writable (*should be done on your development server) then uploading the image

    Hi Hbb.

    Thank you for responding.

Im going to try to be more detailed.

I hired someone to do WP customization for me. Now I just wanted to replace a few pictures. I have no idea what method he used to upload the pictures, but I did give him my FTP information.

I log in to the admin and attempt to edit one of my pages. I try to add an image. I upload the image from my desktop. The image is a jpeg. And this image shows in all my other programs so there is nothing wrong with my image. Once upload is complete the image appears as a Box/frame with a Red X in the corner no matter what I do. I never see the actual image. The designer was able to upload images and I can see them in my library, but when I try it doesnt work. I read somewhere I have to use a FTP program to upload images to WP, is this true? I am not a programmer so all this is new to me. Sorry, some of the lingo is also new to me. Do I have to use a specific method to upload images? Im just trying to figure out what Im doing wrong. Thanks again.

Now that is information you have yet to share with us. The problem seems to be in your admin panel, and not with pictures showing on your blog. (I guess) I would think that information would be very helpful to anyone attempting to assist.

Are you using firefox? If so, are you using “no script” or “add-block” add on?

If not, have you upgraded your browser to the latest flash version?
Is the upload path to your wp-content directory in your dashboard correct?

Have you tried disabling the flash based uploader?

Do you have any type of hotlink protection turned on?

Do you have any contact information for your designer that you gave the ftp information to? Perhaps they can guide you. ( He/She, whichever it may be. You seemed to have referred to your designer as both “he” and “she” in different posts, so who knows.

Have you had a chance to look for solutions from similar issues here in the forum? “red x ” upload

Are we talking about changing pictures as part of your theme?
    A gallery?
    In the posts themselves?

Hi Claytonjames. My site is not of relevance because the problem Im having does not show on the site. It just wouldnt make a difference. I have not made any actual changes to the site. I am still on the admin page clicking around to see what everything does. I tried to replace a picture and thats when I ran into my first problem (many more to come I know). You have some very interesting pointers in your post that I am going to look into right now.
I did not try in firefox yet. Perhaps I should try that right away.

“Is the upload path to your wp-content directory in your dashboard correct?”. This sounds very interesting, unfortunately I have no clue how to make sure my upload path is correct.

I am a true beginner to WP, determined to learn it, hence all the “newbie” questions.

    Thanks for the help.

Ps. The designer was a shemale! No… just kidding… ?? I’ve worked with different people…

Hi Chris. Yes, I do have a theme installed. I tried a few different ways to upload my image, it just wont appear as more than a box/frame with a red X in it. I tried inserting it to the post and also adding it to the library: no difference. I know Im doing something wrong, just not sure what it is.

Having a theme installed unfortunately doesn’t answer any of the 3 questions I had asked. (Pretty much everyone has a theme).

So, to ask a clarifying question: Are you trying to change an image that is part of your theme?

If so, you’ll need to first upload the image to be with the rest of your images (FTP / sftp). Then you’ll need to edit the appropriate theme file to reference the new image.

All these files should (presumably) be located in your wp-content/themes/YourThemeName directory on your server.

    Hope that helps.

Yes… trying to replace an image that is part of the theme… I received alot of help all of a sudden… so I will be looking into all of it… I’ll be back ??

I’ve tried uploading pictures to the media gallery in a post and normally when it uploads completely, there’s a small thumbnail on the left side that shows the picture. Only today, I tried to upload a picture and it went through, but the thumbnail does not show up. I tried adding it to the post anyway and the picture size comes up, but no picture shows, all that shows up in the thumbnail and post is the size of the picture with a little note icon and a red X on it. I tried it on a seperate website because i thought it may be a server issue, but it worked fine on that website. Which tells me there’s a wordpress issue. I haven’t changed anything in my settings, I just woke up this morning and the pictures wouldn’t upload. I’ve read many forums about this issue and alot of them said that they’ve been getting this recently and it ended up being a wordpress issue with the path to the WordPress Image Uploader, is there anyway I can fix this?

    Thanks,

    MKRob

I just starting having this same problem. I have been able to insert images for months without any problems. Now I get the box with the red x. I didn’t change anything on my settings it just started happening.
