• so I am not that great about these things, but I really like the galleries that Picasa makes. They have a raw XML output.
Would it be possible to make a plugin or tool that you could add galleries that look like your template?

    just a thought.

  • Whoops… I was forgetting to re-initialise a variable, so if you made a second post with a gallery in it, you ended up with that gallery in the first post as well. I’ve since fixed it, so if you’re already downloaded it and have started using it on your site, you might want to grab it again.

Thanks to archaeologyman for picking that up!

I’m having trouble splitting the information into multiple pages. I want to hard code in a max value before it splits into more pages, say 25. Any chance someone could help me? I’m not terribly good with XML.

Not sure exactly what you’re trying to do or why, but maybe only export 25 photos out of Picasa at a time?

I’m working on an options page, and something like this might be possible to include. Don’t expect it any time soon though, work is flat out at the moment…

I’m a huge photobuff. I’m planning to put about 1 gig worth of pictures online. Well, I’m making my complete photogallery out of this. I much rather use WordPress to power my gallery rather then something overbloated like Gallery.

For example, one of my Tags in Picasa has two hundred pictures. Obviously, I don’t want 200 thumbnails on one page. I’m trying to write change the PicasaXMLPlugin to automatically paginate.

Ok… sounds reasonable enough. Not sure how’d it go with that many photos. I’ll keep that in mind when I’m developing it a bit further, let me know if you come up with anything in the mean time.

Hey great plugin, but the “alt” tags for my images have all the spaces removed– example here, XML here. How do I fix this?

Sounds like you haven’t got the latest version. That was fixed shortly after the first version was posted. Try grabbing it again.

I’ve created my own version of a Picasa to WP plugin. It has taken longer than expected but it’s getting to the point where I’ll make it available if any of you want to give it a go.

I’ve made it so that every photo is its own post but outside of the chronological order kind of like a static page but the posts won’t show up on the static menu either. The benefits of that are now I can have comments for each individual picture as well.

I’ve created an options page where you can choose how many thumbnails you want to show at one time as well as how many you want to show in an archive page.

I’m working on enabling custom templates for gallery pages and individual photo pages as well so I can make templates with enough room to show the bigger photos. In the future I also hope to allow for Rewrite options so I can get rid of the query string.

    See a rough example here.

All of the text used in the posts came from the Picasa captions (album caption as well as individual photo captions).

As far as I can tell it is similar to Hi-Fi’s in the way that you upload the exported albums to a specific folder via ftp. The difference is when I log on I go to Manage -> WPicasa and the unpublished albums are listed there. One click and it publishes the photo pages and album page.

Sounds just like what I’m looking for. I’ll try it. Thanks, jim

If you want to give my version a go i’ve made it available:

I recently updated the code so that when you click on a thumbnail in the gallery it opens the picture in a pop-up window the same size of the image.

Here’s the text of the plugin script:

    https://www.emoxter.com/blog/wp-content/wp-picasa-gallery.php.txt

Enjoy and let me know what you think.

I got a bit annoyed with direct image linking, and I dont like the idea that WPicasa generates an entry for each photo (I have large photo albums, so it spams my admin panel).

So I’ve updated WP-Picasa-Gallery and added a helper script which automatically generates Photo Pages on the fly as they are requested. It also features nice Previous and Next links (with Thumbnails), as well as better Caption display.

You can find more information and download link here:
    softcoded.net
or view my live photo album running the script.

Does anyone know how to remove the “.jpg” from the top of every single photo Webpage that Picasa generates? I tried using something like substr(<%itemName%>,1,8) but was unable to get the substr command to be executed. Either I was putting it in the wrong place, or the commance was not recognized.

Where can I find High-Fidelity’s website? https://www.benlyall.com/ is broken. I would like to try this plugin.

i made the plugin for simpleviewer for wordpress 1.5 and 2.0
    https://ibt-media.com/?page_id=5
    go to:
    https://wp-plugins.net/
    and search for simpleviewer.
    it is simple go to:
    https://www.airtightinteractive.com/simpleviewer/simpleviewer.zip
    download..
while you at his site get the picasa plugin
create the album on HD. upload everything except the html file in the main www folder
open the index.html file in notepad copy the contents
then go to your WP-admin create a new page-(gallery) paste in area.. save it that it!
