When images are deleted from a gallery by the use of an API (nextgen-lightroom connection), the physical files are not removed from the server pictures directory. It seems that the API only removes the link between the gallery and the actual jpg file. When files are deleted through use of the dashboard the files are correctly deleted from the server, provided the settings to do this in “other options” is set correctly.
The issue is reproduced on two different hosting environment with different themes. All plugins are up to date.

And Yes, the setting to delete files in the tab other options”is set correctly.
And, Yes, I have checked with the LR plugin developer if this is correct.

    This has several implications:

1.) The remaining unused files are not seen any more by the plugin using the API and are therefore using unnecessary server space. This can be al lot when I need to have 20.000 pictures online. Manually deleting this through a FTP connection is not practical since they cannot be identified automatically.

2.) When a picture is deleted from the gallery and then added back again later, the API will create a second instance of the picture on the server. This will also use unnecessary server space.

    How can this be resolved?

@knouws – If this is in regards to our Lightroom plugin, please contact our support team directly with any questions or concerns for NextGEN Pro subscription related items via your member’s area at https://imagely.com/support/

If this is a Lightroom plugin by another author, I would recommend contacting them directly.

Either way, the WordPress support forums would not likely be the place to discuss issues with a non-WordPress plugin.

    Thanks!

    @imagely,

The problem surfaced by using a LR plugin by another author which i have contacted already before as stated above.

By our joint testing and trouble shooting we found that that it appears your NextGEN Gallery WP plugin uses two completely different algorithms when deleting images through the admin dashboard and via the API. The API call simply removes the association between the physical file and the gallery, and leaves the JPEG file, its backup copy, and all rendered thumbnails behind, untouched.

This is in our opinion a NexGen issue with you NextGen Gallery Plugin, more specifically with the way the API handles the delete images functionality.

If this is not the place to address this, then please let me know the right place.

@knouws – The methods used by our plugin are obviously something we want to be aware of if they are not working correctly although I am not certain where the issue is as we are not seeing similar problems to what you are describing.

Please send us a Bug Report (https://imagely.com/report-bug/ … please reference this topic) so we can get a better look under the page at your site.

Please include as many details as you can about your site and the issue at hand so we can move on this as fast as possible.

    Thanks!

This has been a very disappointing exprience. I have indicated the issue several times to Imagely and they keep on diverting the issue to the plugin supplier or forcing me to buy their solution. Fact remains that Imagely software does not remove the physical jpg files frm the webserver when deleted through an API call.

I hae entered a ticket directly with Imagely and they keep on closing this without a satifactory resolution.

I have given up and I am looking for an alternative gallery software now.

@knouws – This is unfortunate and also an issue that these forums are not the place to seek assistance for plugins (especially non-WordPress plugins) not hosted in the WordPress plugin directory.

@cais, As I understand NextGen is a WordPress plugin isn’t it? It is YOUR API which is behaving differently on deleting images as opposed to deleting images through the admin page!

It would have been more honest to just acknowledge this and indicate whether or not this issue will be adressed. Instead you keep on diverting this to the user of the API without any offer to resolution.

Your latest reply just proved my point again.

@knouws – I’m following the WordPress support forum guidelines (which fairly ties my hand as far as providing support for anything outside of the functionality of NextGEN Gallery itself).

Our image delete routines work fine as is within NextGEN Gallery. We cannot be responsible for a third-party plugin (again, one that is not a WordPress plugin) not working as you expect/want. I absolutely agree it should do what you are expecting (namely, delete the images you want deleted as its interface apparently implies) although it is out of our hands that it does not.
