We’re on version 0.8.9 on PHP7.0.x and noticed the new warning about requiring PHP7.1 or higher.

    – If it really is a requirement for this plugin, is this requirement new as of version 0.9.0 ? I just don’t see a note in the changelog about this.
    – Could you please point me at the code that is not PHP7.0.x compatible?

    Thanks!

    Hi @vhmarkgmailcom,

At this very moment, the plugin code is still technically compatible all the way back to PHP 5.4, but that is going to change at some point later this year, most likely after WordPress begins bumping its own runtime requirements.

The plan from there is to limit plugin testing/support to the versions of PHP still receiving upstream security support: https://secure.php.net/supported-versions.php (At present, that list only includes versions 7.1, 7.2, and 7.3.)

The compatibility warnings have been put in place early to give people as much notice as possible. ??

Great thanks – that explains why I couldn’t find it in the code ?? I’ll do compatibility checks on future versions and build some functional tests. I’ll also get the ball rolling on updating our PHP — I do appreciate the early warning.
