php warning message – does not like shortcode

This morning, after using the plugin for a couple of days without an issue, my site suddenly threw a php warning.
Warning: Illegal string offset ‘custom_id’ in /home/steveh8/public_html/tech-rx.com/wp-content/plugins/global-content-blocks/gcb/gcb.class.php on line 50
When I looked at the code, it is the piece that searches up the short code custom string and turns it into the id. The content block was displaying properly on the site, but I was seeing this error. When I replaced the custom string with the numeric id, the error went away. I cannot see anything wierd in the code. Thoughts?
