Thanks for reporting. I will get this fixed up for the next version of the plugin. Let me know if any further issues, questions, etc. Glad to help anytime.

    Thanks Jeff ??

Let me will write you here some feedback. The plugin itself is good. Works as expected but has one confusing thing. The first time I saved a download, I saw in the right column a shortcode. I did not however notice the permalink, which I wanted. And so, I copied the shorcode thinking, that it would echo a URL. However after some struggling and reading the doc I noticed there is no such option. I was very close to uninstalling it but I noticed that on the downloads list page there is a permalink button. Only then I was able to actually get what I wanted. And laaater (like after 2 days) I only noticed the “permalink” link on the edit screen. I wonder, how many people make the same mistake because the link is so hard to spot. I would make it more visible.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m open to ideas for making the permalink more noticeable/obvious, without it looking too weird or out of place, etc.

You have these 2 red buttons on the downloads list. Use them but write next to or inside them text “Copy Permalink” and “Copy Shortcode”. This should do the trick and would be uniform with what you are already using.

Currently there aren’t any red buttons. The buttons all are blue on the downloads list (located at /wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=sdc_download). Are you saying to make them red instead of blue? Sorry, confused..

Ah. I see where the misunderstanding is. I am using a different admin color scheme and I have all buttons with class “button-primary” red. See yourself > https://www.dropbox.com/s/pdg6c7zpt8vxwqz/downloads-screen.png?dl=0

However, now when I think about it, it would be better to give the buttons class “button-secondary”. This way they won’t fight for attention with the “Publish” btn.

Thanks for the feedback. I will make a note of this and see if there is any way to make the buttons more obvious in a future version of SDC.

Just to follow up with this, the reported bug is resolved in the upcoming version of SDC (1.6). Please test the next version when available. Thanks again for reporting, @chrisplaneta.

Hi Jeff. Will do that. Thank you for the update.

As a side-note – a question. I’m not creating a new topic for that because I don’t know if it is even an issue. I’ve been noticing (for a long time now) that old files which links are no longer on the website keep getting downloaded – the count increases bit by bit. I know that because I keep old download files for statistics. Have you experienced anything like that? Any ideas what could cause that?

The Internet never forgets. As I was just adding to the plugin readme.txt:

In the Admin Area, the plugin displays download URLs/links in various places, like the “Edit” screen. On the front end, the plugin does not add any download URLs/links. So by default, there is no way that any bots will know about any of your download links. As soon as you add a download link anywhere on the front end, bots will be able to find and crawl, etc.

So the moment a bot discovers the URL/link, they can crawl/request it anytime forever, even if the file does not exist.
