    Hi there,

I’ve got a message against the plugin saying that there’s an update available, but it doesn’t work with my PHP version.

On checking the minimum PHP version required for version 1.8 it says 7.2, but my installations are on PHP version 7.3.

Great if you could take a look.

    Many thanks!

    Martin.

    Hi abledragon,
thanks for reaching out with this!

This is interesting because that aspect of updating is actually handled by WordPress itself. For whatever reason, WordPress thinks that your site is using a version less than 7.2.

If you are using the latest version of WordPress, what does the new Site Health page say? (this can also be found by going to yourdomain.com/wp-admin/site-health.php).

Even though HD Quiz should still be compatible with PHP 5.6, I decided to up the dependency to be closer in line with WordPress’ requirement of 7.3. Plus the 5x branch of PHP is no longer developed for or receiving any updates or support – so users still using PHP 5 have a big security risk on their hands!

If there are still issues with this, I can consider removing the new requirement so that people like you can still update.

    Keep me posted!

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the quick response!

My site health screen only indicates 1 issue (‘You have plugins waiting to be updated’). I’d attach a screenshot, but I don’t see any way to do so!

    Cheers,

    Martin.

Hmmm interesting. This might actually be a bug in the WordPress core. I’ll try and repeat it this weekend. If successfully, I’ll create a bug report and submit it to the WP team.

Assuming you are correct (and I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t be) this means that on your site at least, WordPress successfully recognizes that your PHP version is 7.3+, but the plugin update job is failing to do so.

I’ve just updated the plugin to reduce the dependency to 7.0. With a bit of luck, this will fix it for you.

Please allow ~15 minutes for the update to propagate through the WordPress repository and see if it works.
