This client site is on Hostgator and we can only go up to PHP 7.1. The issue is that jetpack is now paused itself? Just to be clear, we now need PHP 7.3 for jetpack to even work, is that correct? If so, HostGator has some catching up to and as of now, we can’t use Jetpack…

    Hi there,

What is the URL of the site? I would like to take a look. Also, what is preventing you from updating? Hostgator recommends you to run the most recent PHP version available, so you should be able to update to the most recent version:

    https://www.hostgator.com/help/article/what-version-of-php-are-you-using#What%20Versions%20of%20PHP%20are%20Available?

However, you should only need PHP 5.6 or newer to use Jetpack:

So, there might be something else going on.

    Hi,

Yeah, I wondered why I am getting this message [Jetpack requires a more recent version of PHP and has been paused. Please update PHP to continue enjoying Jetpack.] because I have many other sites out there that are not giving me the message. I am also getting the WordPress PHP Update Required message. Again other sites don’t show that message at 7.0 or 7.1.

The site is don-rick.com. It’s pretty basic site using Hostgator’s cloud hosting and based on the total theme. There are no unusual or uncommon plugins installed.

I can only update to 7.1 via Cpanel. That’s as high as Hostgator is allowing. I contacted support and they said they could “force it” but I was hesitant since they have not made it standard.

    Hi there,

Since you’re getting a similar error with the WordPress installation I suggest using the PHP Compatibility Checker plugin to see what’s causing this.
