I just installed version 3.3.5 of the plugin on a fairly fresh installation of WordPress 4.9.1. When I click the Activate button, I get this error, and the plugin is not activated:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/narfle/public_html/oddcupcake.com/wp-content/plugins/sg-cachepress/sg-cachepress.php on line 44

Currently, your oddcupcake.com website is running on PHP verstion 5.2.17. The PHP version is defined by the /home/narfle/.htaccess file. To use SG Optimizer, you will need PHP 5.5 and above. The recommended version is PHP 7.0.

The last update for PHP 5.2.17 was issued on 06 Jan 2011 which is a long time ago, the version is not considered secure anymore. It is highly recommended that you move your website to PHP 7.0. To do this, you can follow this guide.

Once PHP 7.0 is in place, you should be able to activate SG Optimizer without any issues.
