PHP Depreciated warnings with WP 6.2

    I see the following warning when I do a scan after updating to WordPress 6.2. I’m on PHP 8.2.1.

    Deprecated: strtotime(): Passing null to parameter #1 ($datetime) of type string is deprecated in?/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wfScanEngine.php?on line?2032?0

    Can I safely ignore this warning? And/or will it be addressed in a plugin update?

    Hi @bobsled, thanks for letting us know.

    A deprecation message such as this is advance notice that something will change in a future release of PHP – but still works for now.

    We, or WordPress core will need to change this to be compatible with that future version (which could be months or years away), but now that we’re aware of it you can safely ignore the message.

    I’ve got a couple of similar scan warnings for UpdraftPlus, so I can probably ignore them as well. Thanks for your promt reply.

    We do like to resolve the notices as quickly as possible, although can’t guarantee a timescale here on the forums. Our file could be using a WordPress core function that uses strtotime(), in which case we’ll be waiting for a WordPress update to suppress the message.

    It’s always good to ensure we and other plugin developers are aware though.

    Yes, my developer told me when he updated my sites to PHP 8.2.1 that I might be in for some depreciated warnings for some time. But I think it’s always best to stay updated with the latest versions of WordPress and PHP for security reasons. Anyway, thanks so much for explaing what’s causing the warnings.
