    Many people are in doubts to upgrade or not to upgrade,
    updating PHP requires recent version of WordPress (while about 45% of sites are far than 2 major versions behind) and updates plugins and themes, which can also be the issue.

    Many hosters also offer multiple versions of PHP with default set to oldest supported one (currently should be 7.4 but depends on OS distributor), hosting customers just dont care or are satisfied with the default.

    You can try to update PHP, however 1) make backup 2) keep the possibility of rolling back your PHP version too.
