This is not so much as a ticket as it is something that I ran into.

I use PHP 7.4 for all installations of wordpress and I recently needed to use this plugin for the gmail integration. After successfully setting everything up, the plugin would not allow for email to be sent via gmail.

After about 4 hours I FINALLY said, let me change PHP 7.4 to 7.3. After doing that, everything worked.

Not sure if this should be the official fix or if the integration should work with PHP 7.4…but I can say my website is able to send emails via gmail now.

Same thing here. I had upgraded my PHP to 7.4 and started getting errors sending email. When I switched back to 7.3, it fixed the problem.

Hi @kwstaycreative and @yngvai,

I’m one of the developers working on WP Mail SMTP. I’m locally also using PHP 7.4.2 and I’m not experiencing any issues when testing Gmail mailer.

Which specific PHP version are you using?

Is the “Email Test” in “WP Mail SMTP -> Email Test” sent successfully or is the issue already present there? What does the “full debug log” dropdown say if the test email fails?

Please let me know as much detail as possible, so I can try to replicate this issue and resolve it.

Could you please switch to PHP v7.4, send the test email, and then click on the “Click here to view the full Error Log for debugging” in the error section that appears below the test email form. Please copy and paste the full error log here.

I can confirm: downgrading to php 7.3 did the magic for me too.
