PHP 7 is still not considered to be stable & it is the main reason that most of the Linux distributions still have old PHP 5 on their default repositories.
Consider the idea of developing the plugin to work on php5

    Hello,

    According to PHP developers:
    https://php.net/supported-versions.php

PHP5 is no longer actively supported.
As even security updates will be disabled in next 8 months, we decided to use PHP7 so we can develop our plugin without worrying about outdated language.

Until that moment, few will use it. Debian does not use it and as long as it will not be in their repositories I do not intend to put my hand to the server. So many will be in my storage right now.

    Hello,

Unfortunately we will not be downgrading our plugin to PHP5, as we want to focus on expanding it further, which is not possible with outdated language libs.

We have over 200 active customers using our newest plugin.
You could try it too, even on small test server if you want.

PHP7 should be available on all 3 main Debian releases already:
    https://packages.debian.org/stretch/php7.0
