This one is driving me crazy. On the page linked to above, I’ve inserted many photos. They all display in the post correctly, BUT upon clicking on the photos to enlarge, the first 4 photos rotate anywhere from 90 – 180 degrees. The remaining photos enlarge correctly. I’ve checked them in my media folder and they all enlarge correctly. It is only in the page they do not. I’ve looked at both the Visual and Text editors and see nothing to explain why this happens. Below are a few of the particulars.
Template: Twenty Seventeen (up to date)
WP Version 5.0.2-en (up to date)

I really don’t know how many people will click on the photos to enlarge but I want the site to be as perfect as I can make it, and possibly solve issues which may arise in the future. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

  • When a photo is taken, all the details like camera name and model, time, date, focal length, shutter speed, ISO, etc. are saved in the image data. This is called EXIF data. One of these pieces is orientation. The software to view the image usually uses the orientation information to show the image as taken. But not always.

When you upload the image to WordPress, the original is stored as is. The smaller sizes generated don’t get that EXIF data copied over. (I think there are plugins for that.)
So it could be that the smaller ones on your page were generated the correct direction, but without EXIF, and then clicking shows the original with the EXIF, so it is turned.

Search around for EXIF and orientation, and see what you find.
