photos not uploading

The WP documentation and the instructional videos I Googled all show photo uploads on WP–but the screen I get is not the one I’m seeing on these videos. They show a “Browse” button; I get a “Choose Files” button. More importantly, the videos and instructions show that when you choose the image file, the filepath enters itself in the box. But what I get is simply an icon of the image, and when I click that image, nothing happens.

Can anybody explain how I can get my screen to behave the same way as the instructional screens? Photos are an integral part of my upcoming blog, and hours of research has not helped. Thanks.
