Photos Displaying Blurry

Is there any improvement if you switch off Jetpack’s Photon module at Jetpack -> Settings in your blog’s Dashboard?

I have experienced the same problem. The only workaround I have found, unfortunately, is to go into the Media settings, change all values to 0, and then upload every image from scratch. The change in the Media settings will not effect images that have already been uploaded–only new images going forward.

Just tried that and unfortunately it didn’t work, thank you for the suggestion though! I’ve also tried turning off all plugins, and switching to a different theme and those didn’t affect it either.

When you say media settings… do you mean to hover over Settings, then Media, then change all the image dimension values to 0 (as in max width:0 max height:0)?

Willing to try anything I just want to make sure I’m following the fix you’re describing!

How does it look when comparing side-by-side without zooming in on the image?

It looks you’re comparing the much larger original with the re-sized one WordPress is displaying https://www.classicingray.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/DSC_9848-768×1155.jpg both zoomed in for comparison. As the original one is probably a much large image dimensions-wise, there’s more pixels for it to work with to not look blurry when zoomed in.

If you compare https://www.classicingray.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/DSC_9848-768×1155.jpg with your own original resized to 768?×?1155, they should be very similar.

Setting those options to 0 will disable WordPress’s image re-sizing, so you won’t for example wind up with a 768?×?1155 re-sized version of the original.

The downside is you’ll be loading a huge image in a smaller space, wasting server bandwidth and making your site much slower.

My side by side comparison wasn’t zoomed in, that’s just a cropped portion of how that image looks at full size when viewed on my site. I pulled the other one up in photo viewer to take a screen shot side by side. Both are the same file, same size & dimensions.

I’m not understanding why if I save my original image at 768×1155, and then upload it, it suddenly looks blurry on WP. This wasn’t happening before today. Thanks for helping me try to troubleshoot, this has been frustrating me all day!

Ok, so the original was 768×1155 too?

Changing the settings to 0 definitely helped. Still doesn’t look quite perfect but it’s a big improvement. Is there any way to fix the problem more permanently? I used to just upload larger file sizes and click the “large” display and they all uploaded perfectly crisp & clear.

Well, the problem is fixed permanently with them set to 0. ??

If they’re 0, WordPress doesn’t touch the file at all, so any difference you’re seeing now is just how the browser displays the photo vs. whichever application you’re loading the reference photo in.

Anti-aliasing techniques tend to vary between applications.
