    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Could you send us an email with the list of images you’d like to see flushed from Photon? We’ll then take care of that for you.

    Thanks!

This should be a feature added to Photon to allow you to set a cache expire time so it can renew images in case sizes or files have changed. This is highly important if you want more people to take advantage of this feature. ??

I also want to have the possibility to empty the cache. Or is this possible now and I just don’t find it?
    Thanks!

@kenika You can’t do this yourself, but if you send us an email with the list of images to flush, we’ll take care of this for you!

Thanks for your incredibly quick reply and offer, Jeremy. But I need this more often as it seems to cause issues with my design from time to time. I also use W3C Total Cache and CloudFlare (free version). They do the same job as Photon if I’m not mistaken. Please let me know if I am wrong! Otherweise I will have to deactivate Photon, I guess.

W3 Total Cache includes options allowing you to configure and use a Content Delivery Network (CDN), but doesn’t include a CDN, as far as I know.
CloudFlare however does indeed include a CDN feature: https://www.cloudflare.com/features-cdn

Photon does one more thing, though: it serves higher resolution images on Retina and HiDPi devices.

If you need to flush Photon’s cache for some of your images on a regular basis I’m afraid the only solution is to upload a new image with a different file name, until we implement an option allowing your to flush image cache yourself.

    Okay, thanks.
If I deactivate Photon and hence don’t use the Photon cache anymore, I should see the changes like e.g. a new upload of an image with an already used name? Is this correct? Because I deactivated Photon now, but still have the specific issue plus some more.

    That depends.

    • CloudFlare’s CDN might also follow the same rules, so you might have to flush the image’s cache there to start seeing the new image.
    • Jetpack’s Tiled Galleries module uses Photon to resize your images on the fly and create the Tiled effect, so even if you’ve disabled the Photon module, Tiled Galleries will continue to use Photon URLs. If you want to remove Photon from galleries as well, you’ll need to deactivate the Tiled Galleries module.

That did it. I needed to find the “purge cache” button on cloudflare’s website first.
    Thanks for that, Jeremy!

Yes PLEASE add the photo flush cache feature to photon, I have about 300 images on my site currently, I’m not going to generate a list of each one ?? love your tiled galleries though, so I certainly don’t want to let that go.

    thanks!

Feel free to follow along. ??

    Hi there!

Another vote for cache flushing. Especially for those of us who post 500 images AND THEN learn about page speed…

But it raises a general question in my mind even for the future posts. If I use EWWW Image Optimizer to generate the optimized and resized images, is there a race condition with photon? i.e. I post with the full-res version, the image optimizer runs in the background. If there’s a page load through the photon cache before that completes, is there a chance it’ll store the unoptimized version forever?

My understanding of this stuff is hazy at best, so I’m just looking for best practices in making optimized/resized images work.

    Thanks,

As far as I know, EWWW includes 2 different options:

    • Optimize and resize images on upload: that should work with Photon
    • Optimize and resize images on demand after the upload. That won’t work with Photon

Great. So I should be good from here on out, and when the cache purge feature goes it I should be good for all the previous posts.

    Thanks Jeremy!
