    Hello!

The thing is that I’ve a little weird Image Workflow using these plugins: Imsanity, Thumbnail Upscale and EWWW Image Optimizer Cloud.

I’m using Imsanity to limit image resolution, and Thumbnail Upscale to induce a minimum resolution. Together to mitigate the effects of lazy Authors. And, finally, WWW Image Optimizer Cloud to automatically optimize the heck out of all images.

Would this be still working if I start using Photon? I don’t fully understand in which part of the process it hooks.
Also, in my theme I’m requesting specific image sizes. Would this work out of the box or would I need to recode part of my theme?

And, the inevitable question, even If I already know it’s a bit complex… what do you think of this Image Workflow?

    Thanks and happy new year!
    FG

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

I’m not familiar with these plugins, but I quickly checked each plugin description:

    • Imsanity: when a contributor uploads an image that is larger than the configured size, Imsanity will automatically scale it down to the configured size and replace the original image. Photon uses the original image, so since that plugin replaces the original image, it should be compatible with Photon.
    • Thumbnail Upscale: This plugin enables upscaling of thumbnails for small media attachments. Once you enable Photon, your site’s thumbnail images won’t be used anymore: Photon will start from the original image and build its own thumbnail as needed on each page of your site. So while the 2 plugins are compatible, Thumbnail Upscale would become useless once you activate Photon.
    • EWWW Image Optimizer Cloud: plugin that will automatically optimize your images as you upload them to your blog From what I understand, it replaces the original images as you upload them, much like Imsanity. It should consequently be compatible with Photon.

That seems like a good workflow, although I am personally not a big fan of upscaled images; they often look blurry, and they look even worse on Retina or HIDPi devices.

Also, in my theme I’m requesting specific image sizes. Would this work out of the box or would I need to recode part of my theme?

If you use core WordPress functions to call these images, it will work with Photon without any changes.

    I hope this helps.
