    Hi Team

Thanks a lot for JetPack. I just love it. I recently moved my site to SSL. Using a certificate from LetsEncrypt.

Everything seems to be working as it should, however images in my posts are broken if Photon is switched on.

If I access the photon link directly for an image I get the “We cannot complete the request . Remote data cannot be fetched.”

If I switch of SSL then images through photon work.

Currently SSL is on. And Photon is off. Images are displaying. https://themerovingian.co.za

    Please advise

Battling to activate Photon in JetPack Settings

I activate it. It says Photon Activated but if I reload the admin console and go back. It’s deactivated

After 4 tries. It seems to have activated. Do I need to clear any cache?

If this keeps happening, it may be worth trying to activate the module via this page instead:

Since you use a caching plugin on your site, I’d recommend flushing your site cache after any changes.

Let me know how it goes.

    It’s activated.

    Cleared cache.

    Logged out.

Reloaded site. Same result. The images in my posts are broken. And the image on the front page of a website I did. Called SKM.

I’m afraid the problem is still the same.

Do you do anything special to cache your images on your site? If you use a specific setting in W3 Total Cache that may affect the way images are cached, it might be worth deactivating it for a bit to see if it helps.

Will having HTTP Strict Transport security affect Photon?

I’m running W3 total cache and Autooptimize.

    Thread Starter themerovingianza

    (@themerovingianza)

I’ve turned off all caching. And disabled their plug in

HTTP Strict Transport Security is also off.

Can you explain why Photon works if I deactivate the SSL plugin?

Check this out. Here is a direct link to one of my images that should be Photoned.

    https://i1.wp.com/themerovingian.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/img_0520.jpg?ssl=1

Access the link and you get an error. Use the same link but change https to http and remove ssl=1

We’ve just increased our timeout to 3 seconds instead of 2, to account for the speed of your site when using HTTPS, and the latency between your server and ours.

Let me know if it helps.

That seems to have helped dramatically,

    All images are now working,

Thank you very very much!! Much appreciated.

    Hi Jeremy,

I’m getting the same issue as @themerovingianza. Your time test is almost identical as mine (2.683s) to respond the request.

Photon works in no-SSL, but SSL turn on, I go the some broken images.

So, what I can do? I mean, what I tell to my hosting company?

@vitorhugo As long as latency between our servers and yours is high, the 3 second timeout ( as per the new limit we’ve set) is going to be a problem.

If you get results close to 3 seconds even when pinging the server from your own location, maybe you could ask your hosting provider to move your site to a server that’s closer to you and that has no latency issues when pinged from locations like the US? If you can get to a point where you consistently get results below 3 seconds, Photon should work properly.
