Photography theme – Gallery Categories not associating until re-sync
-
Hi I am using the Photography theme with the given settings and I’m not sure if this is the correct behaviour but after publishing, WP does not attach the gallery categories to each gallery. It creates the categories but with zero counts. It only associates the categories with galleries once you click the re-sync with extensions button. After this , you see the galleries with their associated categories.
Is this the correct behaviour? ie having to click re-sync? or have I missed a setting?
Thanks

Hi,
You don’t need to re-sync every time, re-sync is only when you install a new theme for example. Do you have any errors in your PHP error logs? If there is an error, this “linking” step might be skipped.
Also, can you upload a screenshot somewhere of your settings in the Post Types extension, then simply create a folder in LR called FOLDER A, then a collection called COLLECTION A. That should simply create a portfolio “Collection A” associated with the category “Folder A”. You can enable the Debugging Tools in the WP/LR Sync settings and have a look at the hierarchy in there, you might see something abnormal or surprising. Let’s see, and fix it ??
Hi,
Thanks for the great and informative reply!
Now, I think I may have misunderstood how categories work, so apologies if this is the case.
My process has been to :
1. Create a basic collection in LR (not in a folder) containing photos with keywords
2. Publish to LR
3. I then see the keywords as gallery categories within WP BUT with zero associated galleries (until I re-sync)I have now tried your steps ??
1. Created a Folder A in LR
2. Create a collection A in LR
3. Publish in LR
4. I now see a gallery category Folder A as you explained!https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1428466/Folder%20A%20-%20Success.JPG
As I saw my keywords appearing as categories (you can see them in the attachment) I assumed (and hoped) my keywords were being used to create categories. But I now see categories are assigned to galleries via a folder. Or can you do both? ??
Here’s a copy of my Post-Types settings

Thanks again! You’re saving me from losing my hair ??
Chrisps. I am on a hosted service so have contacted my provider for access to my php error logs.
Ahh, so I took it a little further to test…. Instead of creating the collection at the root of the plugin, I placed it in a folder (Folder A!) and assigned a new keyword to the photo.
I published to WP and hey presto, the new keyword appears as a category and assigned to the gallery.
So it seems (I may be wrong) that keywords are not attached if your collection is not within a folder”?
Great teamwork! ??
ChrisOK, I may have spoken too soon ?? .
After the above success. I tried again using several photos in a collection this time(the above used one photo).
The category based on the folder name created successfully and associated with the gallery (“Location”in the screenshot) but the keywords again appeared but were not associated.

I’m still waiting for my hosting service to provide access to my php error logs ….
Thanks !
ChrisI’m seeing this error in post Types setting:
Notice: Uninitialized string offset: 0 in /var/sites/c/cylemo.com/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wplr-sync/extensions/post_types.php on line 297
And here’s a copy of the logger file:

It may not mean anything but I noted the setup instructions for the Photography theme say “You will need to enable the extension Post Types with the Post Type “gallery“”, however within WP the Post Type is “Galleries”
Interestingly, keywords are associated perfectly through the Basic Collections extension (I think!). If I go into the Media section and keywords I get all the keywords with the correct count of images:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1428466/media-keywords.JPGHowever, when I go over to galleries and look at gallery categories I see a list of categories that shouldn’t be there plus those in the test set of photos. Again, no galleries assigned to the categories.
I’m quite keen to use WordPress as the tool to display my photography, and I work entirely within Lightroom so it would be awesome to get this working fully (or hopefully you can help me understand if / where I may be going wrong).
Many thanks ??

Hi,
I now have access to my php error logs. These don’t seem to throw any light as to why wp/lr sync is not linking my galleries to keywords …
also my current 3_Logger.log file </>
It would be fantastic if we can get this resolved!
Thanks

Hello,
I’ve not had a reply to this for over two weeks now. Please can you take a look at why this functionality doesn’t appear to work as I need to ensure my galleries are being correctly associated with keywords at every sync, not just the first sync. The folder name to tag sync seems to work but not the keyword to tag. Thanks
Hey Chris,
Sorry, I have been busy with other things, even though this plugin is one of my highest priority. It’s super stable but the way the keywords operate are tricky, I knew this before, and actually none of my users are probably using them like you do so it wasn’t priority. But of course, if it’s not working well, I want to fix it.
Do you mind telling me exactly how can I simply replicate this issue? I guess using Photography theme, then what settings exactly, and how to make the bug appear? If I can replicate easily and quickly, I think I can provide also a fix asap. Thanks for your help ??
Hey Jordy, I do appreciate your time and do hope we can get this resolved.
To replicate, simply set up the post type Keywords (LR) > Taxonomy (WP) like the screenshot
After this you just need to create a collection in LR containing photos with keywords, then sync the collection.
Create another collection again with photos containing keywords, then sync.
Then check the gallery tags and you’ll see the tags are created but all with zero galleries associated.
Thanks
Hi Jordy,
I’m feeling let down having posted this bug over a month and a half ago and provided considerable evidence, and had very little back in terms of resolving this.
I don’t know if it’s a theme issue or a plugin issue or both, but using galleries and keywords are the main reason I purchased this plug .
I paid and supported this plugin in good faith, so please, can we work to resolve this issue.
Thank you.
Hi Chris,
This plugin has been developed first to be able to sync your LR with your Media Library. This has to work perfectly, and then the API follows. This is also the priority. This is already a huge amount of work. It would worth it more to work at the counter in a supermarket but I love this plugin, making it better, and I believe it’s an investment. But I need to prioritize the support.
I wished people helped me for the extensions. They were originally not supported to be part of the main plugin because I can’t actively support them, that’s way too much and too complex. But I added them directly in the plugin to make it easier for the users. Extensions were supposed to be examples for people to built on. I improved the Post Types extension a lot and it works in most cases, but it will never work for every theme out there, that needs thorough and long testing for every each of them, count 2-3 hours of work every time. I got requests for approximatively 50 themes already. This is huge, I don’t know where to find this kind of time. And that’s ~5% of my overall requests… That’s to give you an idea of the workload I have.
If you just got the plugin for that feature, then I can refund you. That’s easier for me. Making sure that it would work perfectly for you might be one day or even two days of work depending on the issue.
If your problem is linked to keywords, they have been introduced recently in WP/LR Sync in beta, and actually I have 2-3 issues linked to them, it’s the part in the plugin I need to work in priority right now. I think it might fix your issues, but I am not so sure. But anyway, what I need right now is to fix this keywords issues first, then I’ll look more at individual requests concerning them. I hope you are not disappointed but you can believe me, I am really doing my best.
