Photocrati Site Description Issue

  • The issue I’m having is the meta description is not being displayed as the description beneath the link to my page when searching on Google, and I can’t work out why.

    I am using WordPress SEO (Yoast) plugin and setting meta description through that on the homepage. However, when searching on Google instead of the text I have input it will read “Bristol wedding photographer front page-10001001.jpg Bristol wedding photographer front page-10001002.jpg Bristol wedding photographer front …” beneath the page title.

    I have no idea why it’s doing this or how I can fix it. My thought was perhaps there’s some conflict between the plugin and Photocrati theme. Meta descriptions are being used as they should on other pages which now leads me to believe it could be an issue with the photocrati gallery as the homepage seems to be the only page affected (and the only page using the gallery).

    If I’ve not explained the issue well enough search for ‘Steve Watkins Wedding Photography’ and you should see what I’m talking about on the first result.

    Any way I can force it to read the meta description instead of whatever it’s picking up at the moment? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’d like to continue using my current theme and gallery if possible.

  • Have you tried switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    I’m a little weary of switching themes around in case I lose any data or have to re-order all my pages. if I back it up beforehand should I be able to put it all back easily enough? Besides, if it’s not theme related what else could it be?

    I’m going to venture a guess here, that it has to do with your slider

    Is a sample link I grabbed for one of your photos… of course in your source code, all of your pictures are loaded. Google scans your pages looking for content, and seems to be grabbing your alt tags – which are supposed to be description of your image.

    As to how to get google to quit using that – I’m not sure. Your meta description is properly crafted and everything

    I assumed the issue was with the slider however I couldn’t find the exact bit of code looking through. Now you’ve posted that it’s given me the idea to find the image it’s taking it from and change the alt to what I want my meta description to be and get around it that way. I know it’s not ideal but can’t hurt to try, right?

    Would still appreciate a real solution though as I’m not sure that will work, and I don’t really want to have to change themes. Maybe I should email the theme authors as I can’t believe I’m the first person to encounter this problem.

    Also I’ve just noticed Google isn’t picking up the page title properly either. It should be “Bristol Wedding Photographer | Reportage Photography By Steve Watkins” but instead it’s showing “Bristol Wedding Photographer Steve Watkins |”

    Seems like it may be picking up image data again there…

    is the alt for your banner. I’m not sure if Google is just doing that due to the minimal text content on the page or what….

    any one please help … google is showing only image links. for exmpl – i make an new post ( mario apk) and i upload a image (i put image name mario).. google is showing my link as. https://www.sitename.com/mario-apk/mario/ i don’t wanna show image on google search.. what to do…
