    Just updated to latest version WP-PhotoAlbum Plus. Messages are at the top to rebuild album and photo index tables. This terrifies me to say “OK”.

    I’ve used WP for years, had Next-Gen photo gallery, which was awesome. Then it sold to a big company with bad code that wiped hundreds of pics & info. Still I am recovering the data from that (I don’t have originals). Other plugins, hacks, etc. have caused losses too.

    So you can understand why I am shy to “rebuild index tables”.

    What if I don’t rebuild them?

    I have lost hundreds of pics, descriptions and other parts of databases over the years. Not from this plugin mind you, it was Next-Gen when it sold to a corp (I’m still cleaning up what they lost).
    The message at the top Now a message at top of admin says “photo album index tables need to be rebuilt”

    Since version 5.5.0 the searching method changed from ‘classic’ to ‘indexed’. Indexed search was already available for over a year, but was optional. Classic search has been dropped, so on installations where indexed search was not yet activated, it is now. BUT, you need the index db table to be filled with data. This takes only a few minutes when you have say a 100.000 photos.

    If you do not, the search widget and the search box will not work.
    Making the index table can not do any harm to your system.

    Just run the actions on Table VIII-A8 and 9, one at a time: press the ‘Start!’ button, answer ‘yes’ to the verification prompt, observe ‘Working…’ and wait for completion: Ready.

    You may re-do this operation if you might encounter unexpected results in any search operation. It is a regular maintenance procedure.

    Thanks for your quick response.

    So I won’t lose pics or data if I do this, right?
    Pardon my fear, it’s just way too much to do it all over again and we got some excellent event pics I’d hate to lose.
