• I run the website and online content for a Scout Group in London, UK.
I have a vast number of photos and videos (some of which are large in size) which I would like to store somewhere centrally so that they can be accessed by others (ideally via secure log in) if required. Having them stored only on my PC doesn’t seem very “future proof”.

Our webhosting is through Unlimted Webhosting so have plenty of storage space online, but I am keen for the files to be somewhere accessible rather than in the Plesk File Manager area.

Ideally I would have a password protected page on our website with some form of document management plug in where files can be downloaded from (something like SharePoint or LiveLink), but the files don’t necessarily need to be in a gallery view.

I have searched and teste various Plug Ins however none seem to do quite what I am after. Alternatively, is there a way for me to link to the files in Plesk File Manager as an alternative?

    Does anybody have any suggestions?

    Many Thanks

  • You might ask the web host…

I’d probably invest in a cd or a thumb drive and store every photo on it. And further, arrange for it to be kept and available for update by whoever acts as group historian or archivist for the troop.

Else possibly talk with the local librarian, museum, historical society, or even a news organization. That might sound just a bit ‘over the top’ but 100 years from now someone might really appreciate the image content that was preserved.

One or several of those scouts may become a historical figure in the near future.

Although I don’t have any specific plugins to suggest, I want to mention a couple of things:
    – You might look at various membership plugins.
    – Also keep in mind that some solutions may hide / control access to the link, but the resource itself may remain wide-open, should anyone happen to have it’s direct URL.
    – Even if your webhost offers you (more or less) unlimited storage, they may also impose traffic limitations.
