Photo credits on header images and featured images

Does somebody have recommendations for getting photo credits on header images and featured images in twenty seventeen? I’ve tried a couple plugins…but no luck yet. Tried the old school baking the credit to the image. But then that doesn’t work with the beautiful responsive work in the theme. Credits vary by photo (different photographers). Many thanks for any ideas. And your work!
