Phone Number Optional in Checkout instead of required

Hi René,

The “Require Phone Number” checkout field is not allowed by german law….by I want to get as many phone numbers as possible because it helps to solve possible problems faster than mail-contact.

With PayPal Checkout you would need to respect a countries laws relating to data gathering. The plugin developers would also not release an update of a plugin to circumvent any regional laws.

That′s why I want to make it optional for the customer instead of required….the customer can give me the number or not…optional on free will!

Maybe I wrote my inquiry misleading!?

So….there′s no “circumvent any regional laws”…on the contrary….because it′s supposed to be optional

I understand you want to make the phone field on the checkout page to be an optional field as it is not allowed to make it required by the law.

In this case, you can check WooCommerce Checkout Field Editor.

As you can see in this screenshot: https://d.pr/i/uIlKVI you can make that field optional and add the message you want as a placeholder.

But I mean the checkout page generated by your plugin (“Woo-Paypal-Return Page”)….after the customer finished the payment process by paypal and is coming back to the shop.

Not the normal checkout page generated by WooCommerce.

If Checkout Field Editor works in combination with you plugin…I′ll do that.

Could you provide us more details on this? Do you refer to when your customers click on “Pay with PayPal” they are redirected to their PayPal account instead of staying on the WooCommerce shop?

Definitely! As my colleague mentioned that will work to make the Phone field optional.

Customer is using Paypal Express Button….get′s forwarded to Paypal….log′s into Paypal…is initiating payment…get′s back to the shop…which is using your plugins checkout/woo-paypal-return….customer need′s to agree to privacy settings etc…and is finally paying.

It’s designed to modify your checkout fields as you describe, but that is not always an indication that it *will* work on any given site setup.

I suggest you give it a try and let us know if it *does* work or if you experience unexpected results.
