Phone Number (basic) Not Validating

We are using v. 1.6 with WP 4.9.5. In the homepage banner, we have a form with basic phone number field. It accepts less than 10 digits, which make an incomplete number for the U.S. We prefer not to use Better Phone Number field because we don’t want the country flag to be displayed.

How can this be fixed?
