• Developers should make it clear in the plugin description that they will be requesting Credit Card information before the registration process starts not after sensitive information has already been shared and the plugin already installed. This is never done for “user verification” and almost always done for micro/hidden transactions.

Secondly, there is also no mention that the plugin needs to connect and share traffic/other information with optinmonster. If this plugin is offered as a SAS then there is no mention of this in the description.

I guess the name OptinMonster fits perfectly for the developers of this plugin.

  • Hi, @ralphsk,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I’m sorry to hear you’ve felt scammed by OptinMonster; that’s certainly not our intention!

It’s true that all our plans require a credit card and have specific pageview limits and features available to them. We don’t try to hide this fact, but I’m sure there are areas we could certainly share more details upfront.

I did want to let you know that while we do require a credit card, we never want you to worry about unexpected charges. That’s why you can control when and if your card on file is used within your account settings.

You can read more about those settings here – https://optinmonster.com/docs/pageview-and-upgrade-preferences/.

And if needed, you can also take advantage of our 14-day unconditional money-back guarantee.

As for accessing other traffic information, we do this in order to show how successful your campaigns are. That way, you can make the best decisions to improve their conversion rate. This conversion rate is calculated by taking the number of people who opted into a pop-up and dividing that by the number of total interactions during a specific time period.

Outside of traffic, our WordPress plugin also extends the functionality of OptinMonster for WordPress users specifically, letting them more easily target pages, posts, categories, tags, and even integrates with other WordPress plugins…but it does require a connection to our app to access the core functionality.

The purpose of registering an account, then, is so that we can connect the plugin on your site, to the app itself.

If you have any other questions about how OptinMonster and our WordPress plugin work together to help grow lists, leads, and sales, please don’t hesitate to ask.

    Thank you,
